Today is World Bee Day. To celebrate, we wanted to you with a few sweet bee facts.
- We need bees to eat! 75% of the world's food crops need pollinators like bees to survive.
- Each bee has 170 odorant receptors for a seriously good sense of smell. They use this to communicate within the hive and to recognise different types of flowers when looking for food.
- Bees can fly at speeds of up to 25 km/hr and will beat their wings around 200 times per second.
- The honey that bees produce doesn't go off. In fact - archeologists in Egypt have feasted on 3,000 year old honey found buried in a tomb! We like to think they said 'Oh-Mummy - that's good'.
- We have 15 hives on Fortuna Farms, meaning there's up to 1 million bees buzzing around and working their magic and pollinating plants.
Honey from Fortuna Farms is available from Caitlins Honey. If you've not tried their honey yet - we recommend it. The flavour is infused with Fortuna Farm views. And we know they're tasty.
